Sitting Here Thinking
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm sitting here thinking
Of my first day at school
And learning to play
Of my first fight
And how I hurt that night
I'm sitting here thinking
Of the first girl I asked out
Her answer nearly knocked me out
Of my days in high school
With the mini-skirts so cool
I'm sitting here thinking
About my first day at boot camp
The T I's who called us tramp
About Grad-Day being called a 'Man'
It took six weeks to get that name
I'm sitting here thinking
About my orders that said 'PAC'
To Mom that was a sad fact
About the family I left behind
Wishing to be with them one more time
I'm sitting here thinking
About the war we're fighting
The bombs explode--it's not so exciting
About the men who fight and die
I often ask why--only to cry
I'm sitting here thinking
About going home and what I'll do
And of the next girl, will she be true
'Cause if you were here, you'd be thinking too
outside of Madison Wisc. It was #1 on the charts for four weeks in 1968.
